Following in Lafayette’s Footsteps

200 years ago, the United States of America, under President Monroe, invited the Revolutionary War hero the Marquis Lafayette to return for a tribute to his service. In the 14 months he was here, he visited 24 states. He traveled by coach and boat. Here in Georgia, he stopped in Savannah, Augusta, Milledgeville and Macon. Fayette County and the county seat are named in honor of this great man.

Please visit the first floor of the Courthouse Museum on the 5th, 6th, and 7th of September to see the exhibit of his exciting trip! During this time there will be a full size cut out of the young Lafayette and there will be six panels that will elaborate on his historic journey. On the 6th, we will observe the anniversary of the Marquis birthday!

We hope you won’t miss this 200th Anniversary of such monumental importance.
